View full detailsCast iron deep half round guttering provides increased water capacity for buildings with large or steep pitched roofs where drainage demands are higher. The deeper profile supports a strong flow of water away from the property helping to protect external walls and foundations from weather related wear. It retains the traditional rounded shape associated with heritage roofing architecture while delivering long term performance associated with cast iron strength. The system can be finished in a choice of protective coatings that maintain its appearance and corrosion resistance. When combined with matching downpipes and fittings it creates a high capacity traditional system suitable for demanding heritage projects.
What problem does Deep Half Round solve?
It increases capacity for steep pitches and high rainfall zones without moving to a box profile, reducing overflow risk at eaves.
Any installation differences vs standard half round?
Bracket centres remain similar but expect slightly heavier runs. Double-bracket near outlets and angle pieces to control deflection under load.
What sealants are preferred on deeper sections?
Use low-modulus neutral cure silicone approved for cast iron and ensure even compression at the joint bolts to avoid capillary draw.
What standards and finishes do Alumasc cast iron rainwater products comply with?
All Alumasc Apex Heritage cast iron gutters, downpipes and fittings are manufactured to BS 460:2002 for cast iron rainwater goods and supplied either factory primed or with a high-performance two-pack painted finish. Factory finishes are certified for long-term protection and colour consistency.
What are the typical lengths, bracket centres and falls for installation?
Most gutters and downpipes are supplied in 1.83 m (6 ft) lengths. Gutters are typically bracketed at 915 mm centres with extra brackets either side of joints, outlets and angles, and set to a fall of roughly 1:600 to 1:350.
How are joints made and sealed on site?
Traditional spigot-into-socket joints are made using a low-modulus silicone or rubberised bitumen mastic, then bolted through the pre-drilled joint holes using corrosion-resistant bolts and washers.
What about durability, repainting and lifecycle?
Cast iron is extremely strong, vandal-resistant and dimensionally stable. Life expectancy is typically 40+ years with correct installation and periodic maintenance. Factory-painted finishes minimise site time; primed goods can be site painted to the required scheme.
Are Alumasc cast iron systems suitable for heritage and sustainable projects?
Yes. They are widely used on listed and conservation properties because they replicate traditional profiles and details, and cast iron is 100% recyclable at end of life.
